Three Things to Avoid When Studying Astrology

So, what is astrology, then?
Often, defining astrology leaves me at a loss for words.
The word “define” comes from the Latin dēfīniō (“limit, settle.”) Definitions mean limitations. Maybe that’s why I dislike pop astrology. When things are defined so strictly but yet so simplified, I immediately lose interest because I feel restricted.

When studying astrology, we must feed it to other disciplines.

One explanation I have been using for astrology is “the language of energy.” Like any language, astrology can convey meaningful messages. But also, much like a language, it needs other disciplines, such as psychology, philosophy, or mythology, to be applied to give depth and significance.

When studying astrology, we must remember not to see a birth chart as a source of limitations.

It often surprises me that astrology, the tool that enables us to explore our soul-calling, the Self, can be a source of limitation.
This limitation often comes from being too attached to one of the archetypes or an aspect in a birth chart.
Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who introduced the concept of archetypes as fundamental elements of the human collective unconscious, names this “being possessed by an archetype.”
Jung says, “Wherever we are still attached, we are still possessed; and when we are possessed, there is one stronger than us who possesses us.”
An archetype, an aspect, a placement in your birth chart, is never stronger than you. There are unlimited ways to animate an archetype, aspect, and a placement in your birth chart.

When studying astrology, we must approach it from a place of compassion, not criticism.

Compassion involves understanding and empathy. Unfortunately, most astrological placements, signs, and planets are poorly understood. This causes judgment and even hatred towards one another. When understood better, though, we can create better relationships with not only ourselves but also others around us.

What is ahead?

There is faith in December — a fiery one. Mars and the Sun are still in conjunct in Sagittarius. They even started to move away from Saturn’s restrictions.
On December 1, Mercury moved to Capricorn and made an immediate trine to Jupiter. This trine will be exact on December 8. Any ideas for business, strategic planning, negotiations, or launching new projects?
Venus moved to Scorpio on December 4 and is square to Pluto. Even though Venus’s trine to Saturn brings resilience and commitment to things we enjoy, there is room for power struggles.
December 9 is an intense day in terms of relationships. Moon and Venus oppose Jupiter in Scorpio. We are overdoing something. Or there is less ethical about something related to our relationships. Paranoia is possible.
